
Jakarta – Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said that the government would not revise the state revenue target for the tax amnesty program set at Rp 165 trillion (US$12.6 billion) despite budget cuts in the Revised 2016 State Budget.
“This is more about fundamental matter, not only for this year’s revenue, but also to open a tax base as wide as possible in the following years. Therefore, the tax amnesty target will not be revised,” Sri said in Jakarta on Friday, August 5, 2016.
Sri hopes that the target will be achieved, although the government is preparing steps to he taken in case the target is missed.
In the first semester, the government recorded a tax revenue amounting to Rp 458.2 trillion (US$35.2 billion), which was only 33.8 percent of the target set for this year. The Finance Ministry predicted that the tax revenue by the end of this year could miss by Rp 219 trillion (US$16.8 trillion) due to an economic slowdown.
Sri later proposed budget cuts of Rp 133.8 trillion (US$10.2 billion) for several ministries, institutions and regional spending.
