Govt Appoints 7 Lenders for Tax Amnesty, Regulations Ready This Week

Jakarta. The government has chosen four state-controlled lenders and three private lenders to house repatriated assets and tax amnesty-related tax revenue, Jahja Setiaatmadja, the president director of Bank Central Asia, said on Tuesday (12/07).

The group of lenders include Bank Mandiri, Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI), Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) and the mortgage-specified state-owned lender Bank Tabungan Negara, middle-sized lender Bank Tabungan Pensiunan Nasional (BTPN), BCA and Bank Danamon, Jahja said as quoted by Reuters.

Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro said earlier all ministerial regulations related to the nine-month tax amnesty program will be ready this week to ensure an optimal result in luring trillions of repatriated assets back home.

The government had left the public in the dark about the details regarding tax amnesty program for a week during Idul Fitri celebration, shortly after the program was officially launched by President Joko Widodo earlier this month.

The tax amnesty program is expected to attract up to Rp 4,000 trillion ($304 billion) in declared Indonesians’ assets abroad and to return at least Rp 1,000 trillion in repatriated assets. The government also hopes that this program will gather Rp 165 trillion in additional tax revenue.
